I think that this is a good quote for ESOL teachers to consider. Susan is recognizing that her reality may not be the cultural reality of Friday. It is important that we also recognize that there likely are cultural differences between ourselves and our students. If we can understand where our students are coming from, we can better help them to succeed in our society.

I agrre with you Darcy. It's very important teachers be good observers to notice that students from different background are just different. Teachers should be the ones who will encourage them and give them guidance in their learning process.

How interesting would that be to be in a world where men couldn't speak!!!
Joking aside I agree with you Darcy, I think the comment is supposed to make Susan think that her world is not the same as everyone else which is an important point in terms of texts in esl teaching and embedded culture.
